JEANNIE MILLS

About Child Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with Jeannie

Psychodynamic Therapy differs from other therapies in that it initially focuses on the root cause of the presenting issues rather than immediate solutions or elimination of symptoms. However, gradual relief from the affective symptoms occurs as the patient begins to externalize and give form to the internal conflicts for which treatment is sought. Through a purposeful yet unguided process of play, creativity, relationship building, and the endeavor to build an innate curiosity of the self and all of its operations, personal growth and development is experienced.

I stress the importance of the parent-child relationship and I will often work with the parents before meeting with the child. This is to assess how to best proceed with treatment for your child. Additionally, I find that therapy is most successful when the parents and myself have a working alliance on behalf of the child concerned. While it is your child that is being treated, the therapeutic process tends to address the parent/s in a parallel manner and thus tends to also examine each parent as an individual bringing their own personal history/ies to the room.          .
